Project Subject Matter and Focus
Students are required to deconstruct and re-design an existing domestic electrical appliance. The focus will be on:
1. Situations/problems users get into while using the chosen product
2. Gaps between the needs and existing solutions
3. Deconstruction, functional arrangements and assembly of the components
4. Basic interfaces (such as handles, hand grips, knobs, controls and displays)
5. Appearance & Finishing: Form, Color, Texture, Material
6. Meaning through physical contact
Students are expected to recognize and understand “redesigning for the domestic” through;
- re-designing already existing products with focus on basic product design framework
- aligning research findings with design concepts and solutions
